Course purpose
This advanced course helps financial investigators recognise when legal rules shape the validity, fairness and usefulness of investigative work. It addresses mandate and powers, privacy, employment and contractual rights, privilege, production and preservation, interviews, digital evidence, reporting duties, cross-border cooperation and the distinction between investigative findings and legal determinations. It is not a substitute for jurisdiction-specific legal advice.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
1. Map a proposed financial-investigation procedure to its authority, purpose, rights impact and legal-review requirements.
2. Design acquisition, preservation and documentation controls that support authenticity, integrity and admissibility decisions.
3. Evaluate privacy, employment, privilege, confidentiality, disclosure and reporting constraints in an investigation plan.
4. Recognise when cross-border evidence, information exchange or asset action requires formal legal or competent-authority channels.
5. Prepare legally sensitive findings and instructions that preserve the roles of investigators, counsel and decision-makers.
