Course purpose
This Specialist course introduces international asset tracing as a structured reconstruction of property, rights, ownership, control, custody, value and movement across jurisdictions. Learners build an authority and country map, define the asset universe, reconcile financial populations, resolve beneficial ownership, follow bank and non-bank value, assess digital and physical evidence, and support lawful preservation and recovery strategy. The course distinguishes tracing from freezing, seizure, confiscation, insolvency recovery and final return. It draws on UNCAC asset-recovery principles, the StAR Asset Recovery Handbook, FATF standards and UNCITRAL’s 2025 asset-tracing toolkit. It does not authorize compulsory process, account access, surveillance, restraint, forfeiture, insolvency action or contact with foreign authorities. Those powers and decisions belong to competent authorities, courts, officeholders and qualified counsel.
Learning outcomes
