Course purpose
This advanced course provides a systematic method for investigating companies, partnerships, foundations, trusts and related arrangements. It moves beyond a static organisation chart to reconstruct legal identity, historical ownership, effective control, financial relationships, asset location and business purpose. Learners practise testing corporate records against independent evidence and communicating complex structures without treating legitimate complexity as proof of wrongdoing.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
1. Define the complete entity and arrangement universe relevant to an allegation, asset or transaction flow.
2. Distinguish legal ownership, beneficial ownership, management authority, economic influence and practical control.
3. Corroborate corporate records using financial, operational, contractual, communication and public-source evidence.
4. Evaluate intercompany activity, asset location and economic substance while testing legitimate explanations.
5. Prepare time-specific structure charts and findings that identify evidence, contradictions, confidence and limitations.
