Techniques and Tools for Asset Tracing

Course purpose

This Specialist course develops a tool-agnostic method for tracing value through accounts, entities, assets and jurisdictions. It explains how to convert a lawful mandate into a source plan, preserve original evidence, normalize financial data, reconcile transaction populations, follow transformations, research ownership, analyse relationships, assess digital-asset information and present reproducible findings. The course distinguishes a tool’s output from evidential proof: software may identify a match, cluster, anomaly or pathway, but the practitioner must validate identifiers, provenance, ownership, purpose and legal significance. Learners apply spreadsheet, database, visualization, registry, open-source and specialist-platform concepts without depending on a particular commercial product. Access, privacy, secrecy, privilege, cybersecurity and international-cooperation rules must always be confirmed for the relevant jurisdiction and engagement.
