Course purpose
This Advanced course develops the judgement needed to manage uncertainty within investigative policies. Learners define policy objectives and risk criteria; identify legal, ethical, people, process, evidence, technology, information and external risks; analyse likelihood, consequence, velocity and control strength; select proportionate treatments; assign ownership; build indicators, escalation and assurance; and govern exceptions and policy change. The course treats risk management as decision support rather than a scoring exercise. It does not authorize surveillance, compulsory access, cross-border transfer, disciplinary action or disclosure; determine privilege, admissibility or liability; replace case-specific legal advice; or promise that every adverse event can be prevented. Organizations must validate policy controls against applicable law, court or regulator directions, contracts, collective arrangements, professional duties, technology and local operating conditions.
