Course purpose
This Advanced course develops an integrated method for digital forensics and data analytics in global cases. Learners define propositions and digital evidence needs; map devices, systems, cloud services, custodians and jurisdictions; plan lawful preservation and acquisition; protect integrity and continuity; normalize distributed data; apply hypothesis-led analytics; validate tools, scripts and automated outputs; integrate digital, financial, documentary and testimonial evidence; and report reproducible, appropriately qualified conclusions. The course does not confer search, seizure, interception, surveillance, compelled-production or cross-border transfer powers; authorize bypassing encryption, access controls, provider process or privacy rights; determine admissibility, privilege, ownership, criminal liability or legal intent; replace specialist examination, competent authorities, current local law, provider terms or case-specific legal advice; or imply that a hash, tool output, anomaly or model score proves authenticity or wrongdoing. Every procedure must be validated for the engagement, source technology, jurisdiction, intended forum, data-protection requirements, competence, safety and evidential purpose.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
1. Map global digital evidence sources, custodians, jurisdictions, propositions, risks and decision rights.
2. Design lawful preservation, collection, acquisition, integrity and chain-of-custody controls.
3. Control cross-border, cloud, mobile, endpoint and third-party digital evidence without losing provenance.
4. Apply reproducible data preparation, hypothesis-led analytics, tool validation and alternative-explanation testing.
5. Integrate, review, report and close digital findings with transparent limitations and retained evidence.
