Course purpose
This Advanced course develops a rigorous method for working with financial evidence. Learners define propositions and evidence needs; acquire and preserve records; assess source, authenticity, completeness and reliability; normalize and reconcile populations; reconstruct transactions; trace sources and uses; analyse ledgers, bank activity, cash flow and counterparties; test anomalies and alternative explanations; quantify with appropriate sensitivity; integrate documentary, digital and testimonial evidence; and report facts, inferences and limitations transparently. The course does not establish ownership, dishonesty, fraud, money laundering, tax liability, sanctions breach, admissibility, damages or guilt; authorize access, compelled production, account restraint or asset seizure; replace applicable law, accounting or auditing standards, case-specific legal advice or specialist digital examination; or promise that incomplete records can support a single precise answer. Every method must be matched to the engagement, jurisdiction, source systems, evidential rules, materiality, professional duties and decision-maker’s needs.
