Course purpose
This Specialist course examines how cyber compromise, social engineering and misuse of legitimate access create false or unauthorized accounting events. Learners map business email compromise, account takeover, vendor-master manipulation, payment diversion, payroll fraud, invoice fraud, credential abuse, ransomware and data manipulation to financial processes and accounting records. They design prevention and detection controls, preserve relevant digital and financial evidence, reconstruct attempted, blocked, settled, returned, recovered and unrecovered amounts, and report fraud risks without overstating attribution or guilt. The course emphasizes the intersection of people, identity, workflow, ERP, banking and external communications. It is defensive and non-operational: it does not teach phishing, credential theft, malware execution, evasion or unauthorized access. Learners must not contact a suspected actor, alter an account, search a device, reset credentials or initiate a recovery transfer except through authorized incident and legal procedures. Applicable auditing standards, reporting frameworks, privacy, employment, notification, insurance and law-enforcement requirements control practice.
