Course purpose
This Specialist course develops a controlled approach to digital-forensic investigations from mandate to closure. Learners convert an allegation or incident into answerable questions; map endpoint, mobile, cloud, identity, application, network and financial sources; preserve volatile and short-retention evidence; evaluate acquisition and examination plans; construct cross-system timelines; reconcile technical events to transactions and accounting records; and communicate findings with appropriate limitations. The course emphasizes the accountant’s role in defining financial questions, securing native business records, testing completeness, tracing economic effects and reviewing specialist outputs. It does not teach unauthorized access, password bypass, exploit development, malware deployment, live-system experimentation or self-directed device seizure. Learners must not image, isolate, search, alter, unlock or connect a device or account unless current authority, law, safety controls and qualified technical direction permit the action. Applicable privacy, employment, privilege, notification, disclosure, evidence and sector requirements govern every investigation.
